Young Alumni Affinity Group

The Young Alumni Affinity Group (YAAG) supports the Alumni and Family Engagement team and the Chair of the Affinity Group in their efforts to create and sustain meaningful relationships with Haverford's young alumni, defined as graduates of the last decade.

The purpose of YAAG is to advocate for the needs of Haverford's young alumni and advise young alumni programming. The Group seeks to support recent graduates with programs, communications and opportunities that are uniquely tailored to strengthen the active involvement of young alumni in support of Haverford College and the Alumni Association.

Nominations

Young alumni interested in serving on the Young Alumni Affinity Group may express their interest verbally or in writing at any time by emailing youngalumni [at] haverford.edu.

Interested young alumni will be asked to complete a short self-nomination form.

Nominations will be reviewed on an ongoing basis by the existing members of the Group and the associate director of Alumni and Parent Relations. Decisions will be made by consensus and invitations extended.

Annually, in the month of August, the Group, with the help of the associate director of Alumni and Family Engagement, the Young Alumni Liaison will issue a call for nominations via email to ensure open positions are advertised. Other options for advertising the opportunity include: an ad in the Haverford magazine, a request for nominees sent to the Alumni Association Executive Committee (AAEC), young alumni Annual Fund volunteers, and reunion volunteers.

Research Associate - U.S. Economics at Citigroup

I majored in economics and minored in statistics at Haverford. I played on the cricket team as an undergraduate and was a subcommittee chair on the Senior Class Gift committee my senior year. My first job out of Haverford was covering fixed income derivatives and term structure models at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. I have since moved on to the U.S. Economics Research team at Citigroup.

I was a computer science major and economics minor. I volunteered as an HCO, was a member of Women in STEM, and was the editor-in-chief of the Haverford Clerk news. I just graduated in May and went through some kind of recruiting process every year for the past four years—do not hesitate to let me know if I can be of help in any way.

I was an economics major at Haverford and minored in political science at Bryn Mawr. I was on the cricket team all four years, I was at Haverford and also an ISRP my sophomore and senior years. I did a Whitehead internship the summer before my senior year and have spent the majority of the 8 years since I graduated working at Aberdeen Standard Investments in Philadelphia, in a variety of roles largely focused on risk and compliance.

At Haverford, I was a Questbridge Scholar and majored in religion. I was a member of both the track and cross-country teams all four years. I also served as a Customs Person and was an integral member of the Sons of Africa group. After graduation, I spent two years in Pittsburgh, PA, as a Heinz Fellow with the Heinz Endowments, serving as a school-based mentor. As part of the fellowship, I pursued and received a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Robert Morris University. Now, I’m back in Philadelphia and work as a manager and recruiter for a national youth development non-profit, Summer Search Philadelphia. In my free time I coach a middle school track team and rep every New York City’s sports team.

At Haverford, I was a growth and structure of cities major. On campus, I was co-chair of residential life committee and Student Political Network. I also was involved in heavily involved with Customs. I am now a senior consultant for Deloitte, where I lead administrative, technology, and growth strategy projects for primarily higher education institutions. Previously, I was a senior analyst at EAB, the higher education research, technology, and consulting firm. I started my career as an assistant dean of admission at Wesleyan University.

At Haverford I studied sociology and economics. I was on the softball team, was a Customs person, and was involved with Chabad. I currently live in Philadelphia with my husband, Brett Cohen '14, and dog Marvin. I work in the insurance industry and outside of work am involved with the Philly Fights Cancer benefitting the Abramson Cancer Center at UPenn, and with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Equity and Organizational Change Manager at the National Young Farmers Coalition

Before Young Farmers, Michelle spent her time at Haveford as a pre-veterinary student majoring in Italian at Bryn Mawr. She was a member of the Punt Pre-Vet Society, president of the Italian Club, and community service chair of the Black Students League. Upon graduating, Michelle worked at the University of Pennsylvania’s Swine Unit at the New Bolton Center where she farmed and cared for 800+ hogs. She achieved an M.A. in Food Studies from New York University in 2019, where she concentrated on food and agricultural economics and policy specifically. Michelle now works to create a just future for agriculture by fighting for equitable policy reform on behalf of the National Young Farmers Coalition.

I majored in international studies at Haverford (technically Bryn Mawr). Outside of academics, I was the captain of the squash team and led the golf team. During my four years at Haverford I studied chemistry and biochemistry. Outside of academics, I was a captain of the tennis team. After summers performing orthopedic research and biochemistry research, I decided to pursue a career within the healthcare industry but outside of research. My first job was in NYC at Crossix (now Veeva) analyzing healthcare marketing campaigns. After about two years, I started working at IQVIA within the Market Access Strategy Consulting practice as an associate consultant.

I majored in political science at Haverford. Outside of academics, I played on the baseball team, was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and a Peer Awareness Facilitator (now part of the Customs Community Facilitator). After a Whitehead Fellowship my sophomore summer, and a junior summer internship at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, I decided to pursue a legal career. I now work as a paralegal in the Litigation Department at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in NYC, and am looking forward to law school.

I was a fine arts and psychology double major. On campus, I was involved with Customs, James House, the Hurford Center, and a captain of intramural tennis. I did illustration and design for the Clerk, and worked in the printmaking studio. After graduation, I started a year-long position through AmeriCorps working (virtually) at Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools in D.C. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and illustrating recipes. At Haverford, I was a biology major and health studies minor. On campus, I was a captain of the women’s tennis team, and was a member of two different customs teams during my sophomore and senior years. In addition, I was very involved in on campus Jewish life, serving as a board member for the Rohr Center for Jewish life and as a student leader for the Tri-Co Birthright trip during my senior year. I am now an analyst for a boutique life science consulting company, working to solve problems at the intersection of science and business.
