Anthropology & Linguistics
Where are you now? What are you doing, and what does your work involve?
I just started an MA in Applied Linguistics at UCLA's Institute of Education. My interests lie mostly in bi/multilingualism and multilingual communities, although I am also interested in language education—I tutor English online alongside my studies.
Have you drawn on your experience in the Writing Center since graduating?
Yes, many times, especially when thinking about unequal Englishes and the role of language within education. More concretely, I also used my Writing Center experience when writing my graduate school applications—having experience helping others with their personal statements made editing and drafting my own much easier.
What’s something you’ve learned about writing that you’d like to share with Haverford writers?
There is no right way to write! There are only conventions and expectations—ones which you can choose to follow or to break.
