IES Vienna: Psychology and Social Sciences

Introduction

Experience life in Vienna as a student of Psychology and Social Sciences. IES Abroad’s courses give you the opportunity to explore youth cultures, childhood development, virtual identity on the web, the immigrant experience, and the social and psychological dimensions of discrimination. You can also enroll in an internship or field experience in public service organizations, NGOs, or teaching English to kindergarten, primary, or secondary students. Taking German is required, but no background in the language is necessary.

  • Visa:

    Required. IES will provide detailed visa information after students have been accepted into the program.

    Non-US citizens should consult with IES and the Office of International Student Support before applying to the program.

  • Fees: Students pay regular tuition to Haverford College. Haverford is then responsible for making payments to IES. Students pay housing costs directly to IES.
Requirements

Previous German language study is not required. Students must enroll in an appropriate-level IES German language course.

Academic Credit

Each semester, students must carry 15 to 19 credit hours. Students are not permitted to take less than 15 credits unless they have the permission of their dean and advisor in advance.  Major, minor, and concentration transfer credit will only be granted for courses in which students receive a grade of a C or above.

Orientation

Students receive a four-day orientation upon arrival and then have a 3 week intensive German orientation program.

Number of Students

Approximately 100-120 students attend the two Vienna programs each semester.

Housing/Meal Plans

Apartments with access to a shared kitchen space. No meals are included in the program fee.

Haverford students may not opt for independent off-campus housing – that is, housing not arranged by the program.
