With the second-place finish, Eshghi becomes Haverford's sixth first-team All-American in the event.
Haverford senior Reza Eshghi '25 earned NCAA Division III national runner-up honors in the indoor 3,000-meter run on March 15 at the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth University, clocking a time of 8:10.26.
With his second-place finish, the Lincoln, Mass., native becomes Haverford's sixth first-team All-American in the event, joining Greg Morgan, Dylan Gearinger, Charlie Marquardt (twice), and Chris Stadler.
Eshghi, the Centennial Conference champion in the 3,000 meters, entered the meet as one of the favorites in a deep and talented field featuring some of Division III's top distance runners. He came into the weekend's action holding the fastest time in the Metro Region and the Haverford school record in the event.
Running a strong and methodical race from the gun, Eshghi positioned himself near the front of the pack alongside standout competitors Grant Mathai of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Emmanuel LeBlond of Johns Hopkins, with Quinn White (Pomona-Pitzer), Chasen Hunt (Lynchburg), and Christian Patzka (Wisconsin-Whitewater) also in early contention.
However, just past the 1,600-meter mark, Braden Nicholson of North Central (Ill.) surged to the front with a decisive move, breaking away from the field and setting a blistering pace. Though Nicholson visibly labored in the closing laps, he managed to hold off a late-charging Eshghi, who firmly secured second place over the final three laps. Eshghi finished nearly a second ahead of third-place Hunt.
Wisconsin-La Crosse (84 total points) took home the national team title in dominant fashion, while Wisconsin-Oshkosh (39 points) was second, Rowan third (32 points) and Lynchburg fourth (29 points) to round out the podium. Haverford finished in a tie for 25th overall by virtue of Eshghi's eight points.
With Eshghi's final indoor performance now in the books, Haverford shifts its focus to the outdoor track & field season, which begins on Friday, March 28, at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener.
