Combatants for Peace, Quakers, Israel and Palestine: A Film followed by Presentation and Discussion with Jonathan Evans '77 and Swarthmore Professor Sa'ed Atshan

Combatants for Peace is a grassroots movement of Israelis and Palestinians, working together toward peace. American Friends of Combatants for Peace (AFCFP) is a diverse community of U.S. and international activists working in solidarity with Combatants for Peace. Join representatives of the AFCFP Philadelphia Chapter for a viewing of the documentary film, “There is Another Way.” The film profiles CFP members' refusal to surrender to violence and injustice, showing that another path is possible - for them, for us, and for all humanity.

Following the film, we will break before sundown (5:58), providing an opportunity for individuals who are fasting for Ramadan to break their fast at that time. Food from several Middle Eastern restaurants will be offered in Zubrow Commons, for individuals who RSVP for the dinner and discussion by Friday, February 28. As we settle around tables, we will hear brief presentations from Jonathan Evans '77 and Swarthmore Professor Sa'ed Atshan, about the role of Quaker presence and Quaker peacebuilding organizations in the region, with particular attention to how they have held onto the Quaker value of seeing the light in every person, despite horrific challenges to that commitment. We will then turn to facilitated discussion at tables, considering lessons for the Haverford Campus and regional community, before bringing questions back to the guest speakers.

*This event is open to students, staff, faculty, and alumni of Haverford, Bryn Mawr, and Swarthmore. An additional, public event will be organized in the region, by American Friends of Combatants for Peace.
