Call for Nominations for Staff Association Executive Committee, the “Budget Committee,” Safety Committee
Details
The Staff Association Executive Committee is seeking nominations and self-nominations from the community for open staff representative positions on the Staff Association Executive Committee (SAEC), the Administrative Advisory Committee (AAC / the “Budget Committee”), and the Safety Committee.
All College staff members are eligible to serve as staff representatives. The SAEC strives for diverse and proportional staff representation on the SAEC and other College committees across division, identity, experience, and job classification.
If you are interested in being a staff representative but are concerned that your service would be an undue burden for you or your department, please contact Vice Chair Julie Miller to discuss ways to make the opportunity feasible. Time spent in service as a staff representative is considered time worked, and service to the College as a staff representative is strongly supported by the President and Senior Staff. It is the SAEC’s goal to make participation accessible for all College staff, and we will work with you and/or your supervisor to find a reasonable accommodation.
Nominations for open positions are being accepted via the links below until 9am on Thursday, April 13. We anticipate that appointments will be made by May 1. Please contact Julie Miller, SAEC Vice Chair, at jmiller1 [at] haverford.edu with any questions. Thank you!
Staff Association Executive Committee
Seeking: 2 Staff Representatives
Appointment: 3 years (terms start July 1)
Time Commitment: monthly 1-hour executive committee meetings, running from September through May; periodic additional meetings with campus collaborators in HR, the President’s Office, IDEA, etc. Meetings are scheduled to accommodate EC member schedules as best as possible.
The Haverford College Staff Association is led by an Executive Committee that discusses and advocates for staff in matters of interest and concern that are raised throughout the year. Executive Committee members also identify and elect staff representatives to serve on College committees and executive search committees.
Administrative Advisory Committee (“Budget Committee”)
Seeking: 1 Staff Representative
Appointment: 3 years (terms start July 1)
Time Commitment: AAC meets approximately every other Thursday from 4:00-5:30 p.m., September to May. AAC members are also appointed to the SAEC as full members and attend the monthly SAEC meetings.
Two members of the Staff Association Executive Committee are appointed to serve three-year terms as staff representatives to the Administrative Advisory Committee (known as the ‘budget committee’). AAC is a faculty chaired committee that offers advice to the President and other senior administrators on all matters relating to the financial health and operation of the College. This responsibility includes participation in the preparation of the annual budget for the coming fiscal year and a review of the previous year's performance. AAC reviews data pertaining to all of the major areas of revenue and expenditure and gives its advice as to the proper balance between competing needs.
Seeking: 1 non-exempt Staff Representative
Appointment: 2 years (terms start July 1)
Time Commitment: The committee generally meets on the 3rd Friday of each month (including summer months) from 10:30-11am.
Two members of the Staff Association (one exempt and one non-exempt) are appointed for two-year terms as staff representatives to the Safety Committee, which is chaired by the Associate Director of Campus Safety and Safety Coordinator and meets monthly. Safety committee staff reps are ex-officio members of the SAEC, which means they are encouraged to attend SAEC meetings but it is not required and they do not vote.
