Be safe, friends. Haverford College's policies and protocols for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic are guided by our four overarching principles:

1. we will provide an excellent liberal arts education;
2. we will prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of students, faculty, and staff;
3. we will contribute to the greater good;
4. we will steward Haverford as a perpetual institution.

These policies are in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and may be revisited as public health conditions change. Plans will be aligned and consistent with local orders and ordinances of Delaware and Montgomery Counties, as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Haverford’s plans will also follow recommendations from the federal government, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Health.

Pre-registration closed on Thursday, May 11. However, we welcome walk-in registrations! When you arrive on campus, please go to the second floor of the Whitehead Campus Center (WCC) to complete the process. 

Dorms:

Accommodation in campus housing will be available. Please note that rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, we encourage early registration if you intend to stay on campus. Dorms will include air conditioning, towels, sheets, and blankets and the total weekend cost will be $125 for pre-registration. Walk-in housing will incur a $30 surcharge. 

Local accomodation:

There are a variety of hotels in the greater Philadelphia area as well as other accommodation options on airbnb.com. Please note that these options sell out quickly given the myriad activities occuring in the area during this time.

Parking: For the most part, parking is entirely open during the Weekend. You may park in areas that say they are reserved for students, faculty, or staff. However, please be aware of any accessible spaces, as well as those designated as temporarily reserved. 

All gifts made within a reunion year (applicable for classes ending in 3 and 8) will count toward your class total. Make a gift, or find out more about reunion gift counting, on our Reunion Giving page.

Of course you need all of the Haverford gear to represent your passion for the College throughout the Weekend, and beyond. The College Bookstore will be open during the Weekend at the following times:

Friday: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

However, if you can't wait, or if you want it shipped home, you can also visit the online Bookstore at any time!

How can you best start conversations with students, fellow alumni, faculty, and staff and learn about their experiences in relation to Haverford, while honoring their identities? It’s important to remember, as we excitedly gather together, that our community is built on values of inclusion and mutual respect, and is best supported by conversations grounded in curiosity, thoughtfulness, and good will. Though our attempts to connect may be well meaning, some questions could register  as insensitive and bear an undesired impact. We offer below a few  ways to enhance or generate inclusive conversations: 

Instead of: “Where are you from?”

Consider: “Where do you call home?”

Reasoning: For people of color in the US (and our international friends), asking where someone is from (especially repeated as, “yes, but where are you from from?”) may have the inadvertent effect of othering or alienating them. The implication is that anyone with these identities does not belong within our shared community.

Instead of: “What’s your major?”

Consider: “What are you studying?” OR “What was your favorite class last semester?”

Reasoning: Some students are still navigating their academic trajectory, and may feel stressed or overwhelmed if they do not yet know the exact major they will pursue. The best part of a liberal arts education is that they have time to explore their passions before making a decision.

Instead of: “What do you do (for a living)?”

Consider: “How do you spend your time?” OR “What are you most passionate about right now?”

Reasoning: Not everyone defines themself around their work, and some people may be in a process of career exploration. Asking a more open ended question welcomes all into the conversation, regardless of their employment status/type, and may lead to a more interesting conversation around possible shared interests/passions.

Instead of: Assuming anyone’s pronouns*

Consider: Offer yours and ask for theirs

Reasoning: It’s a welcome addition to a conversation to introduce yourself with your preferred pronouns and to encourage others to do the same. Remember to consistently align with preferences. For example: “I use he-series pronouns” is an ideal way to make people comfortable when referring to you.

We want you to have a safe, comfortable, and fun weekend that the whole family can enjoy! In addition to our Family Fun Fair on saturday afternoon, and the playground located behind the Library, facing Leeds Green, we want to make sure you are aware that:

• Diaper changing tables are located in the restrooms in both VCAM and the Library. These restrooms are all gender neutral. 
• There is a nursing room on the ground floor of Founders, down the center hall on the left side. The code for the room is on the door and there is a sliding "available/occupied" sign on the door for your privacy. 
• If you and your children are in need of a sensory conscious space, a quiet room has been reserved in Gest Hall, 102, for your use throughout the weekend.
