How to Request Funding to Assist with Testing

If you are seeking information and funding for testing to determine if you have a disability (learning disability, ADHD, mental health diagnosis), please see the steps and process below.

ADA accommodations and testing requests are considered on a case-by-case basis. ADS works with each student to gain the most comprehensive understanding of the students’ needs to determine reasonable ADA accommodations and supports. Testing can help to inform this understanding in some cases, but it is not always necessary or indicated.

  1. Make an appointment with ADS.
    The interactive process is integral to the process and required by law. The purpose of discussion is to establish the best path forward to support you. Below are some of the questions we will discuss in this meeting.

    • With what are you struggling and how is it affecting your ability to function as a college student (e.g., academics, housing etc.)?
    • What is different or changed from your experiences in high school or in previous semesters?
    • What experiences have led you to explore whether you might have a learning disability, ADHD, or a psychiatric disability?
    • Have you utilized any other Haverford resources to help with these concerns (e.g., OAR, CAPS, Writing Center, peer tutoring, academic coaching etc.)? If yes, how has this benefitted you? What challenges are you currently experiencing that lead you to explore more support?
    • What information do you hope to gain from testing?
  2. ADS consultation with others on campus.
    With the student’s permission, the Director of ADS may speak to others (OAR, Deans, CAPS etc.) who are familiar with the student’s situation to help inform decisions and determine a path forward for support.
  3. Follow up meeting to discuss options.
    Options might include:

    1. Temporary or Provisional ADA Accommodations
    2. Connections to campus resources and individuals who can provide support (tutor, academic coach, counselor etc.)
    3. Technology tools to support learning
    4. Testing
    5. Other
      (Please note that it can take several meetings to discuss options and determine what supports to implement)
  4. Supports and ADA accommodations from #3 are determined and implemented.
  5. Check in meeting.
    This might be necessary to discuss how the supports and/or ADA accommodations are working out for the student. In this meeting we may revisit options or discuss new supports and ADA accommodations.

Please note that if testing is determined to be necessary, this can take months to complete. However, during that time, other supports or ADA accommodations may be implemented.
