Library Renovation Project
Magill Library will close at the end of the fall 2017 semester and will reopen as Lutnick Library when construction is complete.
Haverford is working with Perry Dean Rogers Partners of Boston, a firm that specializes in educational and academic buildings. Mark Freeman, President of the firm, and Todd Schaffer, Senior Associate, are the lead architects working on the project. They have collaborated on many projects, including several college and university libraries at Dickinson College, Clark University, and Florida State University. We are pursuing sustainability standards that align with LEED Gold to reflect the College’s commitment to sustainability.
Feedback sessions and community gatherings throughout the process informed the final program of the building; recommendations from the community are brought to the below committees. The architects have been on campus and held feedback sessions on December 5-6, 2016, January 26-27, 2017, March 16-17, 2017, April 20-21, 2017, May 11, 2017, and July 11-12, 2017. We will continue to announce visits and will create further opportunities for updates on the project as we move forward.
The cost of the project is estimated to be in the range of $32-$33 million dollars. As we move to construction documents in December 2017, we will have a more precise total cost.
We understand the community has many questions about what is happening and how they will be impacted by the closure of Magill during construction. Our renovation guide will be updated throughout the project with current information.
