Fifty-nine Bi-College students have been awarded 2016 summer internships by the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship (CPGC). The CPGC internship program puts Haverford's educational philosophy into practice by providing students with opportunities to integrate their academic learning with practical experience in a way that fosters responsible engagement with social justice issues.
Each intern was selected because they demonstrated an intellectual engagement with an important domestic or international issue and a commitment to understanding how global processes affect local communities. The expectation is that these students will bring their internship experience back to the Haverford campus in significant ways, both in the classroom and via co-curricular activities.
This year the Center is supporting 47 Haverford students and 12 Bryn Mawr students, and is sending 25 of the Haverford students on domestic internships and 22 on international ones. Two of the Haverford interns are being co-funded with the John B. Hurford '60 Center for the Arts and Humanities and one is being co-funded with the Marian E. Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center. At Haverford, the CPGC is supporting the work of 10 first-years—a record high—22 sophomores, 9 juniors, and 6 seniors.
