In the Style of Ozu: Student Film Project Public Screening Event!
Details
Please join the students in EALCH 230 Postwar Japanese Cinema for a public screening of their final film projects. Over the course of the semester students in Postwar Japanese Cinema wrote, directed, and produced four short films (5-10 min.) mimicking the style of Japanese filmmaker Ozu Yasujiro (1903-1963). Ozu is one of the most influential Japanese filmmakers and his style is both unique and unconventional. The formal aspects of these short films demonstrate Ozu's particular aesthetic and filmmaking style (e.g. low camera angel, 360 degree space, static camera,“pillow shots,” etc.). The narrative aspects of the films reflect Ozu's thematic and cultural concerns.
