Marx is back! Transplanted from the afterlife to present day SoHo in New York City, Marx launches into a passionate, funny, and moving defense of his life and political ideas. Looking at the world around him, he decries deepening inequality between the rich and poor and new forms of labor exploitation. He calls upon the audience to consider the relevancy of his ideas in the pursuit of social justice today.
The play, written by the esteemed historian Howard Zinn, is a witty and penetrating introduction to Marx's life, friendships, and family; his trenchant analysis of society, and his passion for social change.
The play features Bob Weick as Karl Marx. A veteran stage performer in the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia, he is the national touring actor of MARX IN SOHO, presenting over 160 performances from Maine to California. The celebrated actor and Barrymore Award nominee has worked with such companies as Philadelphia Theater Company, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and Iron Age Theater. Bob hopes to use his talent to contribute to the education and engagement of students and citizens.
Sponsored by the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship, and the Departments of Anthropology and Sociology.
Free and open to the public.
