Curt Cacioppo's Vermillion Vesperts on WRTI
Ruth Marshall Magill Professor of Music Curt Cacioppo's Vermillion Vespers may be heard on WRTI-FM 90.1 Sunday, May 27th, at 3 p.m. Performed by Philadelphia's virtuoso choir THE CROSSING with conductor Donald Nally (newly appointed director of choral organizations at Northwestern University) and organist Ken Lovett, the“Encore!” broadcast is a reprise of the concert that took place May 12th at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill on the "Month of Moderns" series.
The work, also know as the“Cantata of the Angels,” came about as a commission from a prominent Venetian family, and is a celebration of musical styles from Gregorian chant to contemporary choral sounds which embraces the vocabulary of the great masters as well as the irresistible neo-melodic idiom popular today in Italy. The solo organ writing runs the gamut from intimate colors and inflections to dynamic and triumphant pillars of sonority. The program may also be heard online athttp://www.wrti.org/.
