Four Haverford Grads Named Philly Fellows
Details
Four recent Haverford graduates are among a group of 16 students from area colleges selected as Philly Fellows. Founded in 2006 by Haverford alumni Tim Ifill and Matt Joyce (both Class of 2003), the Philly Fellows program puts recent graduates of local colleges and universities to work at Philadelphia cultural, educational and social service agencies.
Anders Hulleberg, Alexandra Kutler, Hilary Malson, and Sameer Rao, all from the Haverford Class of 2011, will spend their year-long fellowships at a variety of nonprofit organizations in Philadelphia. In addition to their full-time positions in the city, the fellows will spend time in leadership and professional development training. AmeriCorps funding covers the Fellows' housing expenses, provides each with health insurance and transportation costs and pays for an education award when they complete the fellowship year.
Hulleberg, from Baltimore, Md., received a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Economics from Haverford. He will work as a communications fellow for the Community Partnership School, an independent elementary school in Philadelphia with the goal of“providing children from low-wealth, low-income communities with the same quality education offered in the region's best private schools.”
Kutler, from Dallas, Texas, received a bachelor's degree in Religion with a concentration in Africana Studies from Haverford. She will work as a marketing communications manager at the Fleisher Art Memorial, a South Philadelphia community art center.
Malson, from Washington D.C., received a bachelor's degree in Growth and Structure of Cities with a minor in Anthropology from Haverford. She will work as a commercial revitalization communications associate at Mt. Airy USA, an organization that works to revitalize the Mt. Airy neighborhood with programs such as small business assistance and summer youth employment.
Rao, from Avon, Conn., received a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies from Haverford. He will work as a marketing and communications coordinator for Philadelphia Young Playwrights, an organization that provides playwriting and theater arts training to children in grades K-12.
