Mark Rembert '07 Nominated for Do Something Award
Details
Two years ago, Mark Rembert '07 co-founded an organization called Energize Clinton County (ECC) to help strengthen the economic future of his hometown of Wilmington, Ohio. Now, he's been nominated for a 2010 Do Something Award by DoSomething.org, which recognizes the country's best agents of social change ages 25 and under. Rembert has already received a $10,000 grant from the organization, but if he wins the award, he and ECC will be gifted with a $100,000 grant.
Wilmington, Ohio has lost 8,500 jobs since the departure of its biggest employer, transportation company DHL Global. However, thanks to ECC, the community has drawn more than $1.3 million in renewable energy grants, and the area's public and private sectors are supporting green approaches to economic development.“The Do Something Award will be a huge boost to our work helping our community confront its economic crisis by trying out new ideas on the ground,” says Rembert.
The Do Something Awards will be announced July 19 during a live broadcast on VH1. Online votes will help to determine the winner; supporters can vote at www.dosomething.vh1.com.
