Cacioppo Work Gets Radio Play
Details
Composer and pianist Curt Cacioppo is well known for his compositions inspired by Native American themes and lore. But the Haverford professor of music, who has performed around the world and whose commissions include works for the Chicago Symphony and the Emerson String Quartet, has also found creative fodder in American patriotic songs. Cacioppo's “This Little Light of Mine,” the last in his piano trilogy Three American Fantasies, was featured on the radio show Now is the Time, hosted by Kile Smith and broadcast by WRTI-HD2 on Sunday, July 12. The work, performed by pianist Charles Abramovic, re-envisions traditional songs like“The Star Spangled Banner” and“My Country ‘Tis of Thee” in bold ways, evoking, says Cacioppo, “gospel preaching and choir singing, freedom train music, and a feeling of the delta.”
