Details
Painters, sculptors, photographers, and multimedia artists from the faculty and staff of Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore Colleges will display their works in an exhibit at Haverford's Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, Nov. 5-Dec. 17, 2004. This event marks the first time artists from all three colleges have been included in one exhibit.
Among the approximately 50 works are paintings by Haverford's Ying Li and Charles Stegeman and Swarthmore's Anda Dubinskis, Randall Exon, Andrea Packard, and Celia Reisman; sculpture by Haverford's Christopher Cairns and Hilarie Johnston and Swarthmore's Brian Meunier; ceramic sculpture by Swarthmore's Syd Carpenter and Doug Herren; photography by Haverford's Sarah Kaufman and William Williams and Swarthmore's Jessica Todd Harper; printmaking by Haverford's Hee Sook Kim; book arts by Swarthmore's Mary Phelan; and stage design by Bryn Mawr's Hiroshi Iwasaki.
“We regard this as a major step forward toward greater cooperation among the three educational institutions,” says associate professor Ying Li, chair of the Fine Arts department and organizer of the exhibit.“We hope this will further widen arts cooperation in our region.” She also feels that the exhibit serves a significant educational purpose for students of all three colleges:“Making art is both an individual and group creativity. Students work together in the studio, sharing a model and reviewing each other's work. This exhibition demonstrates that such wholesome interaction with one's peers continues after graduation and long into professional life.”
Located in Whitehead Campus Center, the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery is open Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 12-5 p.m. For more information, call (610) 896-1287.
