"Conversations in Paint," a traveling exhibition of 30 works reflecting the diversity of visual language in contemporary painting, will be on display at the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery Jan. 20 through Feb. 19. The exhibit has been coordinated by The Painting Center in New York City; 15 paintings were created by Painting Center members (including Associate Professor of Fine Arts Ying Li), and the remaining 15 represent artists from across the country.
"Conversations in Paint" offers an opportunity for dialogue between teachers and students of painting, addressing common questions about the relationship between abstraction and representation, the challenge of making realistic paintings, and the contexts in which paintings can be presented. Although the exhibit's works appear very different from each other on the surface, they share a common link, formally and conceptually.
The Painting Center is a non-profit visual arts exhibition space dedicated to promoting the art of painting in all its diversity and possibility, and serves as a gathering space for the New York City community to exchange ideas. The Center hosts approximately 20 exhibitions per year, and its 15 members organize national and international shows.
