A report shows Haverford high in the rankings of colleges whose graduates go on to earn doctorates.
What are the chances of a Haverford degree leading to a Ph.D.? Excellent, according to a report by the Higher Education Data Sharing consortium (HEDS), a nonprofit organization of private colleges and universities.
In numbers of alumni who went on to receive doctorates, Haverford was ranked 13th among 1,468 liberal arts institutions surveyed by HEDS from 1995-2004. The College scored particularly high marks in specific disciplines, ranking second in political science, public administration and sociology Ph.D.s earned, sixth in medicine, eighth in astronomy, atmospheric sciences and economics, and ninth in history. In all, Haverford graduates received 381 Ph.D.s between 1995-2004.
