KINSC Website Feature Focuses on Internships
Details
A new Student Opportunities page on the Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center (KINSC) website is making it easier for Haverford science majors to find research internships across the country and around the world.
Internships have always been a hallmark of a science education at Haverford, but previously the KINSC had lacked a cohesive way of getting the word out about these opportunities. Typically, students were notified of internship openings through email or fliers sent out by individual science departments.
Kate Heston, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute program coordinator who spearheaded the creation of the new page, says the centralized listings further the goals of the KINSC as a whole. “With the greater collaboration and interdisciplinarity that has evolved in the sciences, we felt that a single site announcing all such opportunities would serve the students more effectively,” says Heston.
Updated regularly, the listings give students majoring in such subjects as astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, math, physics, and psychology the option to peruse internships in all scientific fields, or to narrow their search to a specific field. Ten-week long summer internships comprise the bulk of the listings, but students are encouraged to check the page regularly, especially at this busy time of the year. Says Heston,“Most new announcements get sent to us between December and February.”
