Ben Amendolara '10 Receives Gilman International Scholarship
Details
Ben Amendolara '10 recently won a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which is sponsored by the U.S. State Department. The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants up to $5,000 for undergraduate students to pursue academic studies abroad. The English major/chemistry minor is using the funds to study in Paris during the spring semester.
Because the Gilman Scholarship program stipulates that recipients participate in a post-study service project, Amendolara will start a newsletter for returning study-abroad students.“I also intend to help raise awareness about the scholarship,” he says,“because I feel like it is something that is unknown on campus.”
“Ben is an extraordinary intellectual force in the classroom, someone who delves into the work at hand with keen curiosity and generative insight,” says Amendolara's professor Theresa Tensuan of the English department.“While I'm going to miss Ben's presence in the classroom, I am really pleased that the Gilman International Scholarship will be supporting his studies in Paris this spring, and I look forward to the insights and energy that Ben will be bringing back to Haverford upon his return.”
