Details
If you're looking for unique Chanukah presents or the best latke recipes, Meredith (Levin) Jacobs '89 has the answers. Jacobs, author of The Modern Jewish Mom's Guide to Shabbat (HarperCollins, 2007) is hosting a new show on the subscription-based Jewish Channel called“Chanukah with the Modern Jewish Mom.” The channel will make the show available for subscribers to download from mid-December through mid-January.
The Maryland-based Jacobs went to New York to film the show, which will include a gift guide, cooking segments, a visit to a Jewish nursery school for an art project, and highlights from Jacobs' trip to the annual trade show KosherFest.“We're hoping this will become a regular thing, a ‘Jewish Martha Stewart,'” says Jacobs of the show.“We'd have cooking, crafts, fashion, and I'd conduct celebrity interviews around a mah-jongg table.”
Jacobs, who also edits the website ModernJewishMom.com and hosts two radio shows (“Connecting Family” on Baltimore's NPR affiliate and“Modern Jewish Mom” on XM 108 Radio Hanukkah), says she's having a blast.“It's been a funny evolution since Haverford,” she says.“I never thought I'd be doing this Jewish mom thing as a career. And it's not just fluff—we're making a difference, translating Jewish traditions to fit a modern lifestyle.”
