The Summer Institute on Ethical Leadership aims to provide future leaders with tools to use when dealing with challenging situations. Twelve students were part of the inaugural cohort, and twelve alums returned to campus to lead the program. Applications for the 2017 institute are due March 13, 2017.

Considered pioneering when it was created, a history class called “Seminar on Historical Evidence” was unparalleled in exposing majors to hands-on work in historical research. This approach has since been incorporated into the senior thesis process.
A series of photos taken in 2002 of students with their “Seminar on Historical Evidence” mystery artifact included Rebecca Harris '03, holding a 19th-century pocket watch shipping tin, and Arunabh Ghosh '03, holding a cheek block that was used to control the rigging and sails on a small sailing vessel.

A chemistry major and biochemistry concentrator, Toan Nguyen '14 developed a passion for medicine and social justice after taking an independent college programs course called “Bodies of Injustice: Health, Illness, and Healing in Contexts of Inequality.”
Toan Nguyen '14 currently works for the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute.

Cheerleading—of the all-male variety—has a venerable history at the College. According to The Record of the Class of 1948, the cheerleading squad had six men and the group’s captain was also charged with emceeing pep rallies, as well as the “fireworks-bonfire extravaganza before the Swarthmore game.”
The cheerleading corps went co-ed for a time in the late 1950s as Bryn Mawr students filled out the ranks. By the early 1960s, all the cheerleaders were women.
