Claire Burdick ’19, a psychology major concentrating in peace, justice, and human rights, is interning at the St. Louis Zoo this summer.

"This internship will help me achieve my future goals because it is giving me a taste of what doing animal behavior research for a job is really like,” Burdick says, “and is going to help me build the foundation of skills I'll need if I end up working in the animal-behavior field.”

Astrophysics major Nick Sweeney ’19 is using mathematical models to replicate the ways galaxies clumped together in the early universe—and, hopefully, to learn more about the nature of dark matter as a result. 

A native of Germany, physics major Gerrit Farren '20 will return to Europe this summer to conduct theoretical physics research that will be used to construct a model of the Big Bang.

“Inventing Modern Science”

Associate Professor of History Darin Hayton's course, which explores the revolution in the sciences that occurred between 1500–1750, seeks to understand how and why certain people began to investigate the natural world in new ways and how they convinced other people that their new ways were better.

“Food and Religion”

Taught by Professor of Religion Kenneth Koltun-Fromm and Assistant Professor of Religion Molly Farneth, this course explores the role of food in religious beliefs and practices, including the role of food in religious rituals, the connection between religious foodways and religious identities, and the ethics of food production and consumption.
