It’s never too late to make a New Year’s resolution.
On Jan. 28, Haverford’s Office of Academic Resources (OAR) hosted students for a Resolution Bingo Night. In a clever twist on the classic game, participants filled out bingo cards with their personal, academic, and extracurricular goals for 2025.
Unlike traditional bingo, OAR’s game spans the entire year rather than a single evening, and students are encouraged to scratch off their squares as they mark their achievements. OAR paired the activity with tasty snacks sourced from Ardmore’s Japanese market, Maido!, like candy, seaweed, and Pocky, thin biscuits dipped in chocolate and other flavors to make the night even sweeter.
“I hope students invest time into constructing achievable goals for the spring semester and the rest of the year,” Samantha Gonzalez ’25, one of OAR’s interns, says of the event. “I also hope students make goals that are actually enjoyable and surround self-care while also having some fun decorating their goals with stickers or glitter glue.”

Located on the first floor of Stokes Hall, OAR is instantly recognizable for its welcoming environment filled with plants, fairy lights, and inspiring books. It’s a space where students can focus on schoolwork, connect with members of the College community, or simply get a break from their courseload. In addition to providing a positive, welcoming atmosphere, the OAR offers numerous resources to support students’ academic well-being.
While the OAR is best known for its student-focused events, such as Thesis Cafe and Let’s Get this Ship Done, its team offers one-on-one academic coaching that encourages healthy study strategies and time management. Students can access Haverpedia, a database created by the OAR containing student feedback on classes across all departments.
Continuing its tradition of peer support, the OAR offers peer tutoring in a wide range of subjects and support for student-athletes who must balance their academic and athletic responsibilities.
Through its work, the OAR seeks to maintain a healthy culture around academics at Haverford. As stated on its website, it aims to build “an inclusive community of care and empowerment,” and its contributions to on-campus life at Haverford help make this vision a reality.
Students seeking academic coaching or peer tutoring can schedule a meeting on the OAR website. OAR Intern Sakina Gulamhusein ‘25 encourages students to subscribe to its newsletter so they can stay up to date on the office’s lineup of events.
“We have tons of study-related events with accountability and free snacks, and also fun study break events where we provide activities to unwind, like picture frame decorating,” says Gulamhusein, who creates and shares pithy comics on OAR’s Instagram account every other week.
