Additional Course Info | The main objective of this course is to familiarize students with the scientific study of syntactic structure in human language as part of the broader enterprise of the study of the human language faculty. Students learn the rudiments of syntactic analysis and argumentation within the Principles & Parameters/Minimalist framework in generative syntactic theory. The course gives attention to the relevance of syntax to other fields of study, including psychology (language acquisition, language processing), computer science, language reclamation and revitalization, stigmatized dialects, and more.
