Additional Course Info | Class Number: 1793 After rediscovering a collection of letters by Marcus Tullius Cicero, Italian humanist Francesco Petrarcha wrote two letter collections in emulation of the ancient scholar: the Epistolae familiares and the Epistolae seniles. In this course, we will read a selection of these early modern Latin letters alongside secondary readings that explore the relevance of the letter form to psychoanalytic thought, the theory of literature, and the intellectual history of the Renaissance.; Prerequisite(s): Two semesters of 100-level Latin, or instructor consent Humanities, A: Meaning, Interpretation (Texts) (Hav: HU, A) |
