| Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2606 This course is an examination of literary and artistic horror by black artists. We will articulate the artistic genre of horror and its tendencies, with a particular focus on representations of racial Otherness and racism. We will also consider particular affinities between horror and modes such as black literary realism and naturalism, attentive to moments which collapse a fear of blackness and the terror associated with being black in America. We will study the work of authors and other artists, including Charles Chestnutt, Gwendolyn Brooks, Chester Himes, Edward P. Jones, Chesya Burke, Nalo Hopkinson, Tanananrive Due, The Geto Boys, Snoop Dogg, Childish Gambino and Jordan Peele.
