The Center for Gender Resources and Sexuality Equity (GRASE) cultivates a transformative and equitable community by providing leadership opportunities, programming, and resources on gender and sexuality through an intersectional lens. The vision of the GRASE Center is to foster a campus community that is radically inclusive, equitable, participatory of our LGBTQIA+, women, and femme students.
Shared Values
Community Voice & Action: We center and amplify the voices, lived experiences, and leadership of LGBTQIA+, women, and femme students, staff, and faculty, particularly Black and brown trans and queer revolutionaries who historically have and continue to lead the movement on LGBTQIA+ liberation. We develop student-centered spaces, programs, and resources.
Social Justice: We aim to foster a fully inclusive and equitable campus environment by catalyzing social and institutional change that affirms, nurtures, and celebrates the victories of LGBTQIA+ communities.
Intersectionality: We acknowledge the systemic barriers that have historically, and continue to, marginalize, exclude, and erase communities based on gender identity and sexual orientation, and particularly those at the intersection of race, immigration status, disability, caste, class, religion and spirituality, and other identities. We believe that striving for an equitable campus environment starts with intersectionality as the lens through which we develop and implement our programs.
Education: We provide education and resources with a historical and social analysis of oppressive systems, critical discourse of anti-racism, and principles of justice, strength-based model, and trauma-informed framework.
Leadership: We mobilize sense of power and agency for all students, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation, to live authentically as well as engage knowledgeably and compassionately with regards to gender and sexuality.
The Center for Gender Resources and Sexuality Equity embraces the values and aspirations of Haverford’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Team which provides a strong foundation for our mission, programs, and outreach.
